In order to achieve our vision of a fair, safe, and inclusive society in which lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are treated with dignity and respect, we must understand and value the intersection of LGBT equality and racial justice work.
As detailed in “A Broken Bargain for LGBT Workers of Color“, the reality that LGBT people of color face, living at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, has resulted in unique barriers to employment and education.
LGBT Wisconsinites are members of every race and economic class. Fair Wisconsin is committed to ensuring that our work includes the voices of LGBT people of color, to share their unique experience and dismantle multiple systems of oppression simultaneously.
As many LGBT organizations have and continue to, we also struggle to ensure our work is inclusive of people of color and to address race and racism. Through our work to advance LGBT equality, we seek to be a racial justice ally, supporting organizations and showing up to lend our voices to those working to dismantle racism.
Our mission is to serve the entire LGBT community, and that means approaching our work with a keen awareness and intentionality about the experiences of all members of the community, including LGBT people of color.
